Nkoranza District hit by diarrhoeal infections

Ahyiayem (BA), April 18, GNA – A number of people in the Nkoranza District are suffering from diarrhoeal and other diseases due to lack of potable water.

The affected communities are Ahyiayem, Kontonso, Bredi Number One, Ayerede, Kantankani and Dasagdwa.

Miss Florence Quansah, Nurse in charge of the Ahyiayem Community Clinic, told the Ghana News Agency at Ahyiayem that the people drank from streams that were contaminated by livestock and domestic animals. She said the Ayerede community also faced a grave health problem since their source of water was from River Pru, which was often polluted by fishermen who used poisonous chemicals for fishing.

Miss Quansah appealed to the central government and the District Assembly to reverse the life threatening situation. She suggested the need for the Assembly to enact byelaws to sanction farmers who allowed their livestock to pollute water resources.
