Nkoranza (B/A) April 11, GNA – The Nkoranza District Office of the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) received 81 complaints within the first quarter of the year.
It received 26 complaints in January, 21 in February and 34 in March. Briefing Ghana News Agency, Miss Joyce Nyamadie, District Director of the Commission said complaints on child maintenance were 38, four on child custody, five on paternity, 11 for inheritance, eight on marriage causes and 15 on other issues.
Out of the cases received, 25 were resolved with the remaining 56 pending, she said, adding that child-related cases constituted more than half of the total cases as the area alone registered 47.
Miss Nyamadie expressed concern about broken homes in the district, saying this had contributed to child neglect and streetism and called on parents to live up to their responsibilities towards their children. He urged the youth to ensure that they are adequately prepared before they enter into marriage.
The CHRAJ Director commended the people of Nkoranza for patronising the Commission’s activities, which had made them become more aware of their roles and responsibilities as citizens and parents.
She also thanked the Nkoranza District Assembly for supporting CHRAJ and urged the Assembly not to relent in efforts to enhance the development of the area.
Miss Nyamadie commended some churches in Nkoranza for involving the Commission in their programmes and called on schools, other churches and organisations to take advantage of the Commission’s public educational activities to update their knowledge on human rights issues to enhance their lifestyles.
