Nkontommire cries for teachers’ accommodation

Nkontommire, (Ash), June 17, GNA- The lack of adequate accommodation for teachers in Nkontommire near Mfensi in the Atwima Nwabiagya District has contributed greatly to frequent absenteeism on the part of teachers who commuted daily to the town from other destinations.

The situation which was hampering academic work, has been a source of concern to parents and guardians in Nkontommire. Mr. Kwaku Famang, an opinion leader of the community, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency at Nkontommire, said the roof of an old cocoa shed, which was converted into a building for teachers, was ripped-off.

He said the situation had compelled some teachers to put up at the head teachers’ bungalow, which was inadequate, while others who could not afford the exhorbitant lorry fares charged by drivers plying the area absented themselves from school frequently. Mr. Famang appealed to individuals, district assembly, Churches and other organisations and government to collaborate and build a bungalow for teachers in the community.
