Nkawkaw Businessman Shot

ARMED ROBBERS in the early hours of Friday, March 7, shot and wounded a businessman, Mr. Daniel Koranteng, alias Kofi Asakraka, owner of Kwadisco Stores at Nkawkaw.

Speaking to the Chronicle on his sick bed, he said at about 1.00am, he heard some noise at the back of his house situated at Achiase, a suburb of Nkawkaw. He later heard some people banging at his door ordering him to open.

He said when he refused to open, the robbers forced it open and three of them entered the room with pistols. The robbers asked him to surrender all his money if he valued his life.

Koranteng said, when he told them he had no money at home, they became annoyed and shot at him on three occasions. The bullets hit his two hands, legs and stomach. They also stabbed his right hand and rib.

He said when he fell down, the robbers supposed him to be dead and rushed to his hall and took away his 20 inch colour television set, a video deck and a mobile phone.

When the robbers left, he managed to shout for help and some people living in the neighbourhood rushed him to the Nkawkaw Holy Family Hospital but he was later transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi for further treatment.

The victim alleged that he saw one of the robbers wearing what looked like police uniform and was holding a rifle and stood outside the vehicle they used in the robbery.

According to doctors treating him, more than 22 bullets were stuck in the victim’s body and will take a very long time to remove.

The police have confirmed the story and said they are doing their best to arrest the culprits.
