Koforidua, Sept. 2, GNA – The New Juaben Municipal Assembly is to spend over 771.4 million cedis from its development budget to fund educational programmes this year.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Nana Adjei Boateng, who disclosed this, said the fund would be used to improve upon the physical infrastructure of educational institutions and programmes that promote effective learning and teaching.
He was speaking at a durbar for 320 students drawn from basic and second cycle institutions in the Koforidua Municipality and the Kwahu North District, were attending a week clinic in Science, Technology and Mathematics at Koforidua on Thursday. The two assemblies are jointly funding the programme at a total cost of 65 million cedis.
Nana Adjei Boateng said his assembly was willing to support programmes that could produce more scientifically minded citizenry to support in its bid to contain problems such as the HIV/AIDS pandemic. This conviction, he said, was borne out of the fact that those, who appreciate science, were more likely to accept all that scientific research had revealed about diseases such as HIV/AIDS and therefore, were most likely to assist in public health campaigns to combat it. Nana Adjei Boateng asked the participants to apply themselves diligently to their studies and refrain from activities that were likely to retard their progress.
The New Juaben Municipality is one of the areas in Ghana with a very high prevalence of HIV/AIDS.
