Kumasi, Oct. 22, GNA – Nine teachers from the United Kingdom (UK), have arrived in Kumasi to begin a five-week educational exchange programme in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District.
The programme, which is under the Link Community Development (LCD) Global Teachers (GT) programme, will enable the teachers who will be living in the host schools and communities to share their experiences in teaching and learning, classroom management, as well as, school management with the headmasters, parents and school management committees.
The beneficiary schools and communities are Aburaso, Nyweneso number 1, Kuntanase, Konkori, Brofoyedru, Adagya, Asaago, Feyiase and Pranyase.
Speaking at an induction ceremony in Kumasi on Saturday, Dr Bernard Qyagraine, Country Director of LCD, said the NGO works with the Ghana education Service to facilitate the improvement of quality education in rural schools and also improve the skills of district departments of education to enable them to deliver quality service to their schools and communities.
He said the LCD was currently working in the Bolgatanga municipality, Talensi-Nabdam and Kassena Nankana districts in the Upper East region in addition to the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma district. Dr Qyagraine said the GT programme offered experienced UK Teachers to spend five weeks living and working in rural schools in Ghana to provide an invaluable professional development opportunity for both the host schools and the Global Teachers.
Madam Evelyn Appetey of the district education directorate, who briefed the teachers on the education structure in the district, said the programme would not only boost the morale of pupils and members of the host communities, but would also offer the beneficiary headmasters and staff the opportunity to learn new things to improve their performance.
