Nine standing trial over robbery

Nine suspected armed robbers including an arms supplier, have been remanded by a Kumasi Circuit Court for allegedly attempting to rob a small-scale Chinese Mining Site at Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.

Godfred Adu, Emmanuel Okyere, Kwaku Norso, Hassan Kwadwo, Akwasi Ansah, Michael Cobbina, Kwame Boateng, Agyemang Boadi,( the illegal arms dealer), and Kwame Ayew, have pleaded not guilty to conspiracy and attempted robbery. They are between the ages of 20 and 28.

They are to be brought back on Thursday.

State Attorney, Madam Cecilia Pepprah, told the Court presided over by Mrs Afia Adu-Amankwaah that on February 2, this year, police had a tip-off that the accused persons had hatched a plan to rob the mining site.

The police ambushed them and six out of the nine robbers were arrested at Dunkwa-Junction.

The six in turn led the police to arrest the rest of the gang.

A search on them uncovered two pump action guns, a locally- made gun, seven rounds of live cartridges, mobile phones, one standing fan, amulets and two talismans.

After further investigation, they were charged and put before the Court.
