Nine illegal lotto operators fined 27 million cedis

Kumasi, March 08, GNA – A Kumasi circuit court has slapped a total fine of 27 million cedis on nine people for operating lotto illegally.

They are Kofi Owusu, Kofi Appau, Kwame Wiafe, Oppong Manu, Sylvester Donkor, Eric Yankyera, Kwadwo Adubofour, Yaw Yeboah and Martin oppong.

They all pleaded guilty to the charge of operating lotto unlawfully and sentenced to a fine of three million cedis each. Police Chief Inspector Regina Kesewah told the court that their arrest followed an operation mounted by the police and a task force set up by the Department of National Lotteries (DNL) at the Suame area in the Kumasi metropolis.

She said during the operation they were caught selling coupons other than those DNL approved.
