Mr Amadu Ibrahim Jebkle, Chairman of the Nima Neighbourhood Watch Committee, has appealed to the government to resource the Committee with vehicles and motorbikes.
He said this would enable the Committee to assist the police to contain crime in the area.
Mr Jebkle made the appeal when he spoke with the Ghana News Agency in an interview.
He said Nima was prone to activities of hardened criminals and that the rising crime rate among the youth was alarming as most of them are into cyber crimes and other vices.
He said if these crimes were not curbed the future of the youth would be hampered and they would resort to armed robbery and drug peddling.
Mr Jebkle lauded the police for creating community police units in Nima which had reduced crime, adding that more of such initiatives were needed to wipe out criminal activities in the neighbourhood.
He appealed to chiefs, elders, opinion leaders and stakeholders in the community to lend their support to the government, the police and the neighbourhoods watch committees to boost their operations.
He appealed to political parties to do away with party differences and forge ahead with the government to find lasting solution to crimes committed especially by the youth.
