A political debate between the incumbent Member of Parliament for Odododiodoo Constituency, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye of the New Democratic Congress and the New Patriotic Party’s Parliamentary Candidate Nii Lantey Bannerman turned into chaos with one casualty recorded.
The debate which was organised by 3FM and TV3 at the Bukom Square in Accra, yesterday, 9th of September, left Nii Lantey Vanderpuye very sad and disappointed because Mr. Bannerman’s supporters hooted at him anytime he stood up to speak.
Placards with inscriptions describing the Member of Parliament as a “liar”, “rapist” and “incompetent” were gloriously displayed by the supporters of Mr. Bannerman.
According to Nana Mogabi, a witness who posted his observation on the widely used social network, Facebook stated that Mr. Vanderpuye’s contender, Nii Bannerman described him (Vanderpuye) as “incompetent”, stating that he has also neglected the youth in the constituency.
These insults from Mr. Bannerman and his supporters became a bitter pill for Mr. Vanderpuyes supporters who could not let go but to attack their opponents.
But James Town Police personnel were timely in their intervention to douse the tension.
