Nigerian opens university in Ho

Ho, May 16, GNA – The International University of Theology and Professional Studies (IUTPS) has started operations in Ho with 14 students.

The university, which is currently operating in a rented apartment, is yet to get accreditation from the National Accreditation Board. Apostle Dr Gilbert Okechy, President and Chancellor of the University, said this in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Ho after the school’s first matriculation over the weekend.

He said while awaiting accreditation, the institute was seeking affiliation with one of the public universities in the country. Apostle Dr Okechy said the university hoped to get its own permanent site before September.

He said the university was beginning with the Theological Department where pastors, church workers and leaders would be trained for effective Christian service.

Apostle Dr Okechy said it would start Business Management and Administration, Agriculture, Social Work, Community Development, Leadership and Good Governance and Music courses next academic session that begins in September.

He said theological disciplines in the institute would be blended with socio-spiritual activities to enhance the ability of trained pastors, church leaders and the ordinary person to serve society better. Students in theology would come out with a 2-year diploma in Theology and Missions.

Apostle Dr Okechy, who doubles as the Volta Regional President of the Association of Nigerians Living in Ghana, said the region was chosen because of its agricultural potentials that is one of the focuses of the university.
