Nigerian nabbed for smuggling government fertiliser

Police in the Ashanti Region have intercepted a VIP bus with registration number AS-3614-T with bags of cocoa fertiliser which were meant to be distributed to farmers for free.

The bus was traveling from Kumasi to Aflao.

A 60-year-old Nigerian was arrested in the process for allegedly being responsible for the consignment.

Briefing the media, Ashanti regional police PRO, ASP Mohammed Tanko, said “We intercepted a VIP bus with huge bags of fertiliser – that is fertiliser meant for farmers. These are fertilisers distributed by government for free to cocoa farmers and some people managed to divert them and sell to others. So we managed to intercept the bus that was travelling from Kumasi to Aflao and we uncovered 12 of those huge bags in the vehicle. Our investigations have so far traced us to this man – Yekini Adejuma, a Nigerian”.

“We are advising the public that any agrochemical with the inscription not for sale means it is government that has procured them for free distribution to farmers and it is against the law for anybody who is not meant to deal with them to either sell, receive or buy them,” he advised.
