Nigerian jailed for supplying narcotic drug

An Accra circuit court on Tuesday sentenced Yusuf Adekoya, a Nigerian, to one year imprisonment for supplying narcotic drug.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) George Amega told the court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri that, on 18 April, at about 1630 hours, the Police Narcotic Unit gathered intelligence that some men were peddling drugs around Accra Newtown.

He said the Police met the convict together with others sitting under a tree, and upon seeing the security personnel, he (Yusuf) took to his heels but was arrested.

The prosecution said a search conducted on him revealed a black polythene bag, which was found to contain a quantity of a whitish powdery substance in two transparent polythene bags.

He said upon interrogation, the convict claimed ownership of the substance and mentioned one Wale, a Nigerian as his source of supply.

ASP Amega said the exhibit was being forwarded to the Police Forensic Laboratory for examination.

“Efforts are being made to get the said Wale arrested,” he added.
