Accra, Aug. 10, GNA – The Greater Accra Regional Tribunal on Friday sentenced a 36-year old Nigerian to 15 years imprisonment with hard labour for dealing in narcotic drugs. Felix Ugochukwu Ogu, an electrician, pleaded not guilty to possessing narcotic drugs weighing 1,0245 grammes without lawful authority. The court however, found him guilty after the end of the trial and convicted him accordingly.
Prosecuting Ms. Barbara Sackey a State Attorney, said on March 26, Ogu was arrested with three other Nigerians by Narcotic Control Board (NACOB) officials at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) According to the prosecution, Ogu was on transit from Lahore, Pakistan to Abidjan when he was arrested on suspicion that he was carrying narcotic drugs.
When Ogu was interrogated he denied carrying any drugs because none was found in his luggage.
Prosecution said he was escorted to the 37 Military Hospital where an ex-ray conducted revealed that he had foreign material in his stomach. At the Hospital, Ogu expelled 61 pellets of the narcotic substances. When the substances were sent to the Ghana Standards Board for an examination, they tested positive of heroine.
