NHIS premiums are not to settle debts – DCE

Jambusi(UWR), Feb.06, GNA – Mr. Daniel Dari Kuusono, Wa West District Chief Executive has denied rumours within the district that the Government was financially hard-up and therefore, using premiums of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) to settle foreign debts. Mr. Kuusono who was addressing the people of Jambusi, a farming community within the district as part of a familiarization tour urged them to verify issues from their assembly members in order not to peddle falsehood.

He expressed surprise that people continued to confuse rural dwellers although the Scheme had begun in most parts of the country and people were benefiting from it.

“The NPP Government is not owing anyone even if the party is broke, we shall never use the NHIS premiums to settle debts. We will continue to work towards the socio-economic development of the country,” He added.

On early marriages in the area, Mr Kuusono said the assembly would soon enact by-laws against parents and others who facilitate the elopement of girls.

He noted that the high rate of elopement of girls, especially from schools for marriage could affect girl-child education in the district. The people appealed for the construction of a Junior Secondary School, rehabilitate roads and provision of potable water.
