NHIS picking up in the Suhum/Kraboa/Coaltar district

Suhum (E/R), April 08, GNA – About 12,080 people have so far registered for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the Suhum/Kraboa/Coaltar District scheduled to take off on April 15. A total of 5,492 of those registered are under the ages 18 and 1,347 are aged over 70 years, while 2,519 are SSNIT contributors and 78 pensioners.

Mr Kwaku Kafui Tulasi, the District Scheme Manager, said this at a meeting with some of the stakeholders of the scheme.

He said 115 orphans and street children at the Baptist School Complex, an orphanage at Trotor, near Suhum, were also registered alongside 79 people considered very poor.

Mr Tulasi said 2,284 of the total were paid up members and another 500 people have partly paid up.

He said a flat rate of 72,000 cedis being charged as premium from every adult member yielded about 176,469 million. Mr Tulasi said 475 communities in the district had been grouped into 120 health insurance communities.
