NHIS officially launches 10th anniversary The National Health Insurance Authority
(NHIA) will on Thursday, September 19, 2013 officially launch its 10th anniversary commemoration. The launch event will also see the unveiling of an enhanced NHIS brand by the honourable Minister of Health, Ms Sherry Ayittey. Director of Corporate Affairs at the NHIA, Winfred Agbeibor said “since its introduction, the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) has grown to become a major instrument of financing health care delivery in Ghana.” He said the “launch of the 10th anniversary will further be the official start date for the issuance of the instant NHIS ID cards based on biometric data.” According to him, the anniversary which is on the theme ‘Towards Universal Health Coverage: Increasing Enrolment whilst Ensuring Sustainability’ will cover a two-month period to be climaxed by an International Conference from November 4-6, 2013. Mr Agbeibor added that a number of activities including regional inter-schools quiz competitions, lecture series, healthwalks, special registration and district health screening exercises have been planned to mark the 10th anniversary of the NHIS.
