NHIS holds blood donation exercise

The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives on over the weekend organized a blood donation exercise in Accra to support victims of the June 3 disaster.

The exercise is held annually for NHIS staff in all the 15 districts in the Greater Accra Metropolis.

Mr Lawrence Amartey, Greater Accra Regional Director of the NHIS, speaking to press men said the exercise has been held in all the nine regions of the country.

He said this is one of their routine efforts to give back to society as well as stock the blood bank with blood to save lives.

He called on all to voluntarily donate blood regularly to save people in need of blood and not to wait till an emergency before donating.

Mr Borketey Bortey, Tema NHIS District Manager and a donor, interacting with the Ghana News Agency said blood cannot be bought from anywhere and as such everyone should donate blood to save lives.
