NHIA to be dragged to court

The National Health Insurance Providers Association (NHIPA) is heading to court to seek interpretation on the legislative instrument that established the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), its boss has said.

The Association will pray the court to retrieve over GH¢35 million owed it by the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), the Executive Director told TV3.

Frank Richard Torblu was speaking on TV3’s Midday Live on Friday when he made this known. He said efforts to get the debt paid by NHIA have proven futile.

“They are supposed to owe us not more than four weeks,” Mr Torbu said, referring to the act that established the Scheme. “It is now becoming seven to eight months.”

Mr Torblu said the amount involved covers the insurance of over 2,000 subscribers. “Our members cannot even buy drugs…they cannot do anything.”

He announced that the suit will be filed on Monday.
