NHIA takes delivery of card printing supplies

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has taken delivery of consumables that will enable it print out cards for patients.

On Friday, Starrfmonline.com broke the news that the Authority had run out of ribbons to produce the cards which had left several patients stranded.

The situation left some pregnant women and the aged who cannot afford medical treatment in private hospitals in dire circumstances.

The head of communications of the NHIA Selorm Adonoo, who confirmed the story to Starrfmonline.com said the items have arrived and distribution is ongoing.

According to him, the NHIA took delivery of the consumables Thursday evening and the offices which experienced the shortage have been supplied.

Adonoo said some of the offices which have received their supplies have started work and the situation will normalise around the country by weekend.

The NHIA explained that the situation arose because various outreach programs and collaborations with partner institutions such as the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection and the Education Ministry in enrolling pupils on the school feeding program, all prisoners in the country’s prisons among other vulnerable group registration, made the NHIA overshoot its target which led to the low stock levels.

The situation is dire in the Eastern region and Tema in the Greater Accra region.
