NHIA rolls out one client provider system

The Western Regional Office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) is engaging stakeholders on the one client, one service provider system (Capitation) to ensure a successful roll out of the new system.

Acting Regional Director of the NHIA, Edna Gyau-Baffour who made this known in an interview with the GNA in Takoradi, said the capitation system has come to ensure that service providers live up to expectation in providing quality service delivery to clients.

The new scheme would also promote healthy competition among service providers since clients or patrons under the NHIA have the rights to change their providers after six months or upon request by clients to the authority.

She mentioned that the scheme would eliminate totally “Provider Shopping”, system which cost the Authority lots of money.

Mrs Gyau-Baffour said providers would be given an initial amount to finance the health care needs of patients of a selected facility particularly “Out patients Department” services adding, “fix fees are paid across board to selected providers”.

The Acting Director said once the NHIA disburses the fixed amount, providers would be forced to take good care of the clients since any return to the same facility would be borne by the facility.

She said first round of sensitisation among District Chief Executives, District Health Directors among other stakeholder had been organised whilst April 11- April 13 have been set for community level training and education.
