NHIA pays outstanding claims

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) on Friday said all properly-submitted claims within the statutory period for services rendered up to the close of November 2012 have been paid to all service providers.

The NHIA therefore directed that: “Health Service Providers, who have any other issues relating to the payment of their claims should notify the Authority,” a statement to the Ghana News Agency stated.

The statement issued by NHIA Strategic and Corporate Affairs Division noted that with these payments, normal service should be restored to all NHIS card holders across the country.

Meanwhile the NHIA has expressed concern that Mission Health facilities being members of the Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG) have suspended services to NHIS card holders.

“The Authority regrets this development and wishes to assure its subscribers and the general public that it is engaging with service providers, including the leadership of CHAG, to settle outstanding issues affecting service providers to ensure uninterrupted health service delivery,” it said.

“While efforts are being made to resolve these issues as quickly as possible, the NHIA entreats subscribers in need of healthcare who are being asked to pay cash for healthcare services, to visit the nearest government health facility or other service providers, with their NHIS cards, for any medical attention they may require under the NHIS,” the statement added.
