NHIA organizes blood donation exercise in Wa

The Upper West Regional office of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has organized a blood donation exercise with the aim of helping to replenish existing stocks at the regional hospital’s blood bank.

The distant education students who are the donors of this year’s exercise were treated to a sumptuous meal to prepare them for the exercise.

Mr Abass Suleymana, the Acting Upper West Regional Director of the NHIA, told the Ghana News Agency that the gesture was an annual affair and that it formed part of the Authority’s corporate social responsibility.

He said every year around this period the likelihood of children having anemia was very high, noting that the exercise was therefore done strategically to replenish the regional hospital blood bank to respond adequately to emergencies.

“When the blood bank is fully stocked, lives, especially that of our mothers and children will be saved”, Mr Suleymana said.
