NGO solving waste problem at Ellembelle

Friends of the Environment, a non-governmental organisation (NGO) is recycling wastes into plastic products towards improving sanitation in the country.

The organisation thus collects waste products from Jomoro, Ellembelle and Nzema East Districts in the Western Region and turns them into products such as polythene bags, plastic plates, and bowls.

Mr. Elvis Paddy, an officer with the NGO, told the GNA at Half-Assini, on Monday, that the NGO buys between 18 and 20 kilogrammes of the products daily and transports them to Accra and Tema for processing.

He said some of the waste are also exported to China where they are used for the production of fuel, engine oil, and others, thereby creating jobs for hundreds of people.

Mr. Paddy explained that the NGO entered into that business following consultations with Ministry of Science and Environment about, two years ago.
