NGO provides free medical screening medication for the aged

Jachie (Ash), Dec 14, GNA – Compassion Africa Aged Foundation, a Christian non-governmental organisation (NGO) on Tuesday organised a free health screening exercise for the aged at Jachie in the Bosomtwe-Atwima-Kwanwoma District. The exercise was to detect common diseases that mostly affect the aged with the view to giving them medication and counselling.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency after the five-hour exercise, Madam Felicia Marboah, the Director of Health Services of the NGO, said most of the aged screened were found to be diabetic. She attributed the development to the in-take of fatty food, anxiety, depression and lack of body exercise. “Society must shun socio-cultural practices that create the impression that the aged are witches and wizards and thereby make their existence very difficult,” she said.

Madam Marboah said her NGO had carried out similar exercise for the aged at Pramso, Feyiase, Kuntanase, Esreso and Apinkra, all in the district.
