NGO launches HIV/AIDS campaign in Winneba

Winneba, Nov.12, GNA 96 The Windy International Youth Foundation (WIYF), a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) based in Winneba, last Friday launched an HIV/AIDS educational programme aimed at instilling good morals including self-control, particularly in the youth in the Awutu-Effutu-Senya District.

Mr. Philip Nortei Dowuona, Director of the organization, launching the programme at Winneba, said it was expected to cover over 5,000 young people in the area.

He announced plans to generate funds for the programme and appealed to donor organizations and philanthropists for assistance. Mr. Dowuona said HIV/AIDS was real and stressed the need for all to exercise caution in their sexual behaviour as their contributions to the national crusade to cut down the rate of infection in the coming years. He appealed to Churches and religious organisations to step their campaign on the disease and other health issues to make the nation healthier to move the economy forward. Mr. Dowuona said the organization would soon come out with a special counselling and other measures to sensitise the people on the dangers of the disease.
