NGO Institutes Award Scheme For Tree-Planting

Kumasi, – 9 June Youth in Action, an NGO, has instituted an annual environmental Award scheme to honour community youth groups that distinguish themselves in tree planting. Funded by the Centre for the Development of People (CEDEP), the scheme is to stimulate competition among youth groups on the protection of the environment. Mr Kwaku Appiah, President of Youth in Action, made this known in Kumasi yesterday after 30 youth groups had completed a tree planting exercise at the Bantama Presbyterian Junior Secondary School (JSS). Over 40 different tree species were planted as part of the celebration of World Environmental Day and as part of Youth for Action programme of planing 2,000 trees within the next three years.
