NGO hands over Neonatal Ventilators to 37 Military Hospital

The Centre for Pregnancy and Childbirth Education (CePaCE), in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan, has handed over two neonatal ventilators and four patient monitors with complete ancillaries to the Pediatric Unit of the 37 Military Hospital.

Dr Genevieve Insaidoo, Project Director of CePaCE, said the Hospital is the first medical facility to receive the new neonatal ventilators in the country.

She said the ventilators would help reduce neonatal moralities that occur due to lack of advance life support equipment in the hospitals, adding that, the Servo I ventilators in particular, will address challenges of premature and tiny babies.

She said CePaCE applied for a grant from the Japan Embassy through the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects scheme, and was granted an amount of 120,720 dollars.

The Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Naoto Nikai, said the support is to emphasize the continuous role played by Japan as one of Ghana’s development partners in meeting its development targets.

The Ambassador said improving maternal and child health care was one of the top priorities of the Japanese Government’s Economic Cooperation Policy in Ghana.

He entreated the Hospital to maintain the equipment for longer usage.

Colonel Ralph Ametepe, the Commander of the 37 Military Hospital, thanked CePaCE and the Japan Embassy for the support, and promised to ensure that the equipment would be used for its intended purposes and ensure its proper maintenance.
