NGO fetes lepers’ kids

Ho, Dec. 27, GNA – A Ho based student’s benevolent group, “Imperturbable Dove Club”, on Sunday feted about 200 kids drawn from seven communities of lepers near the Ho leprosarium, now Ho Polyclinic. The lepers, either rejected or out of fear of rejection by their families, settled in clusters around the Leprosarium, called “Freetown”, the largest in the region.

The children were treated to soft drinks, biscuits, candies and pastries amid music and dancing.

Mr Justice Mawufemor Darko, President of the Club, told the Ghana News Agency that the Club was founded five years ago to undertake programmes that would improve the quality of life of the poor and the marginalized.

He said the 20-member Club intends seeking sponsorship to make the yuletide party for children in those communities an annual affair. Other activities of the club include cleanup of public places and procurement of books for donation to deprived schools.
