NGO embarks on intensive HIV/AIDS campaign in Akim Oda

Akim Oda (E/R), Oct. 17, GNA – The Universal United Youth Organisation (UUYO) a non-governmental organisation at Akim Oda, has embarked on a campaign to educate the youth in the area about the dangers of HIV/AIDS.

Some of the programmes initiated by the organisation include drama on HIV/AIDS, the formation of HIV/AIDS clubs, debate on HIV/AIDS and public durbars.

UUYO also organised a debate on HIV/AIDS for schools in the Municipality.

Mr Eric Pinaman Asare, President of UUYO, told the students that the biggest challenge in the campaign against HIV/AIDS was how to influence Ghanaians, particularly the youth to change their attitude towards sex.

He said the songs and jingles on HIV/AIDS are not for amusement, but rather designed to send a message to the target audience to enable them protect themselves against the pandemic through acceptable sexual behaviour.

Mr Pinaman Asare urged the people to be realistic with the HIV/AIDS pandemic and stop associating it with superstition, adding that the dreadful virus, which has no cure, is a draw back to progress and development.
