NGO donates to Saltpond Catholic School

Saltpond (C/R), Jan 28, GNA – Media In Education Trust (MIET), a Non-governmental Organisation (NGO), which promotes education through the use of media aids, has presented electronics valued about 15 million cedis to the Saltpond Catholic Boys’ School. The items, which are to help the school to establish a resource centre, were procured with funds donated by the Netherlands Embassy in Ghana. The items are 21 inches Colour Television set, a set of computer and a printer, Video Cassette Recorder, a Stabiliser, a tape recorder, and eight plastic chairs.

Mr Solomon Ofori, Education Director of the Trust, who made the presentation, said MIET had been supporting the school for the past three years and had taught both the teachers and the pupils how to use press cuttings and other things from the media to make lessons interesting and easier. Mr Ofori said it was the hope of MIET that a well-established resource centre would be established to boost its programmes. Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur, Mfantseman District Chief Executive, who jointly received the items with Miss Vivian Etroo, the District Director of Education, stressed the important role of the Information Communication Technology (ICT) played in promoting education and urged teachers to take advantage of the Distance Learning Programme to upgrade their qualification.

The DCE expressed gratitude to MIET and the Netherlands Embassy for donating the items to the school and appealed to the teachers and the pupils to take good care of them. Miss Etroo appealed to MIET to extend its services to other schools in the District to make its impact felt in a wider circle. She appealed to the teachers to take keen interest in the activities of the Trust so that they could go and replicate them in other schools. MIET later organised workshop on resource centre management for 40 teachers from eight clusters of schools in Saltpond Circuit.
