NGO donates to Castle Road Special School

IHOPE, an Accra-based humanitarian non-governmental organisation, has presented educational materials and items valued at GH¢6,535.00 to the Castle Road Special School in Accra.

The items consist of stationery, wheel chairs, mattresses, detergents, beverages and biscuits.

Beside the items, the NGO organised a party and feted the inmates with variety of local dishes and non-alcoholic drinks.

Ms Jennifer Kumi Danso, the Co-Founder of IHOPE, explained the NGO intended to rehabilitate the deplorable state of the school to create conducive environment for effective teaching and learning.

She said: “Disability is not inability”, and there was the need to support the inmates to further their education so that they would grow to become responsible adults.

Ms Danso observed that attention had been shifted from them and policy makers had sidelined people with disabilities.

According to her, if the physically challenged received the needed assistance, they would grow to become national assets and contribute meaningfully to development.

“Our ultimate aim is to propel educational and social equality through innovative strategies and planning,” she said.

Ms Danso said her organisation was committed to supporting, especially the mentally and physically challenged pupil, to enable them access quality healthcare delivery and education.

Mr Isaac Ben Roseville Gadotor, the headmaster of the school, situated on the premises of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital, thanked the NGO for the gesture.

He said the school had several challenges, and appealed to NGOs, philanthropists and faith-based organisations to go to their aid towards the proper upbringing and development of the inmates.

The school urgently needs food aid, clothing, and educational materials, Mr Gadotor said.
