NGO appeals to mining companies to consult communities

Mrs Hannah Koranteng, Executive Director of WACAM, a non- governmental organization, has appealed to mining companies to consult chiefs and people in areas whey want to prospect for minerals.

Speaking at a workshop at Tema, she said such consultations would prevent violent confrontations.

Mrs Korangteng told representatives from mining areas that they should also exercise their rights to know about the operations of mining companies and even the period of mining to ensure peaceful co-existence.

Mrs Koranteng said everything discussed must be well documented and they should get copies for future references.

Such discussions must also cover safety, environmental issues pertaining to their health.
