Kade, Aug. 22, GNA – The Kwaebibirem Agape Project (KAP), a non-governmental organization, has pledged its commitment to reduce poverty in the Kwaebibirem District by creating employment for the people.
Mr Anthony Obeng-Afrane, Executive Director of KAP, made the pledge when the New Generation Relief Organization (NGIRO), a Canadian-based NGO, donated a fruit drink processing machine worth 3,000 dollars to KAP.
Speaking at the donation ceremony at Kade at the weekend, he thanked NGIRO for the machine and assured them it would be would be used create more jobs for the people.
Mr Obeng-Afrane said KAP had sensitized and assisted the youth in the area to get involved in the Leventis Agricultural Training Programme scholarship offered by the University of Ghana through its research stations.
Twenty-two youth applied for the scholarship, out of which 15 were offered admission and are now receiving one-year training at research stations across the country. They also provided jobs for 200 farmers in the area in 2011.
He said KAP was sourcing funds to help establish the students in self-employment ventures as soon as they completed the course at the end of this year.
The machine was presented by Mr Edem Sosoo, Executive Director of NGIRO and was received by Mr. Martin Senyasu, the Project Director of KAP.
