NFED is not a political wing of a certain party

Juaso (Ash), March 26, GNA – Mr Joseph Adomako, Asante-Akim South District Co-ordinator of the Non-Formal Education Division (NFED), has advised Ghanaians to dispel the notion that the NFED is a political wing of a certain political party.

He said NFED classes are community owned, hence the need for chiefs, assembly members and unit committees as well as other opinion leaders to see to their progress so that those unfortunate ones, who could not have formal education can also be functionally literate to assist in nation building.

Mr Adomako, who was speaking at a meeting with opinion leaders, assembly and unit committee members at Juaso, disclosed that the government has supplied the district with six solar panels, which have been sited at Morso, Ofoase, Banka, Banso, Asuboi and Breku. He said some of the facilitators have received incentives in the form of bicycles, sewing machines and roofing sheets to spur them on to work diligently as they are the pillars of the national functional literacy programme.

Mr Adomako stated that 43 solar radio sets have been distributed to the classes to facilitate their learning.

Mr Eric Aboagye, presiding member of the Asante-Akim South District Assembly, entreated the members to take keen interest in the activities of NFED programmes so that the resources sunk into it will not go into the drain. 26 March 05
