Mpraeso, Jan. 13, GNA – The Kwahu South District Co-ordinator of the Non- Formal Education Division (NFED) of the Ministry of Education, Mr Amoako Mensah, has appealed to the District Assemblies, NGOs and philanthropists for financial assistance for a 22-year-old student of the Abetifi Technical Secondary School (ABTECH) who gained admission after completing his non-formal education.
He said the student, Abdulai Paate, who completed the three-year basic literacy and English course in 1997, was admitted to primary five where he completed his basic education with aggregate 21 in 2003, before gaining admission to the ABTECH to study electronic this academic year.
Mr Mensah who made the appealed in an interview with the GNA at Mpraeso on Thursday, said the father of the student who is a shepherd, could not afford the school fees of his child thus necessitating the appeal for support to enable the enthusiastic student to complete his secondary education.
Meanwhile, the District Co-ordinator announced that 3,198 adult learners passed out in the Kwahu South and West districts last year, while 1,915 adult learners were expected to pass out in the middle of this year.
Mr Mensah said 20 English adult classes had been established in the two district with assistance from the Hunger Project for those who had passed out from the local language classes to enable them to become literate in the English language.
He said the Supervisors had been supplied with motorbikes to ensure effective supervision of the classes.
