Newmont holds workshop on blasting in mining for media

Newmont Golden Ridge Limited (NGRL-Akyem Project), in collaboration with Savannah Communications Limited (SCL), is organizing a two-day capacity building workshop on mine pit blasting for Eastern Regional journalists in Koforidua.

The workshop which is sponsored by NGRL is being organized and facilitated by SCL.

Mr Oduro-Kwarteng Marfo, the External Relations Manager of NGRL, said in a statement that the workshop was aimed at building the capacity of the media about the rationale behind blasting in mining and equipping them with relevant information in ensuring good reportage on mining activities in general.

He said the media would also have the opportunity to discuss issues on construction labour transition, resettlement and community development interventions aimed at promoting development of the project area.

Mr Marfo said as a leading mining company in Ghana, NGRL is committed to employing standardized environmental and social requirements in its operations globally, adding, the development of the Akyem Mine had been subjected to high adherence to global and national mining regulatory standards.
