New Takoradi receives hospital equipment

New Takoradi (W/R), Sept.10, GNA – Citizens of New Takoradi in the Western Region resident in Brescia, Italy have donated hospital equipment, clinical accessories and assorted drugs to enhance health delivery at the local Health Centre at New Takoradi.

The items valued at about 17,000 Ghana Cedis include ten delivery and ten hospital beds, bed-side lockers, mattresses, a wheel chair, and a television set, five waiters’ chairs and assorted drugs. Mr John Coleman Kwegyir Arthur, a representative of the New Takoradi citizens association in Brescia presented the items to the community at a colourful ceremony at New Takoradi on Tuesday. He said the items were procured from individual contributions and hoped they would go a long way to improve the health delivery, and pledged that the association would continue to contribute to the development of the area.

Mr Arthur stressed the need for workers at the centre to take good care of the items so that they would become fully beneficial to the people. Nana Yaw Nketsiah VI, Divisional Chief of New Takoradi who received the items on behalf of the people expressed the community’s gratitude to the association for responding positively to their appeal for support in time of need.

He said the local health centre lacked basic equipment to ensure quality healthcare delivery and the gifts had come at the right time to save the situation.

Nana Nketsiah said he would continue to champion the people’s developmental aspirations and appealed to the Mr Anthony Evans Amoah, the Western Regional Minister to help provide the community with a police station to check the increasing crime wave. Dr Bob Sagoe, Regional Deputy Director of Health in charge of Clinical Care, urged the people to register with the Nation Health Insurance Scheme to enable them to benefit fully from health intervention programmes of the government. 10 Sept. 08
