New State Attorney to handle Soussoudis’ case

Accra, Aug. 25, GNA – A new State Attorney is to handle the case in which Michael Soussoudis, a Businessman, is charged with two counts of possessing explosives, firearms and ammunition without lawful authority. When the case was called at an Accra Fast Track High Court on Wednesday, the presiding judge, Mr Justice G.A. Aryeetey, adjourned to September 13 explaining that the former Prosecutor, Mrs Naa Meley Wood, a Chief State Attorney, had travelled and handed over the docket to the new Prosecutor, who needed time to study the docket for effective prosecution.

When the case was called, the accused and his counsel, Mr Chris Opoku, were not in court.

Soussoudis has pleaded not guilty to all the charges and is on bail.

The evidence before the court is that a team of Police Officers, acting upon information, searched Soussoudis’ residence in April 2001 and found some weapons in main house and outhouse. A seven-member jury is hearing the case.
