NEW MAGAZINE TO PROMOTE GHANAIAN POETRY

NEW MAGAZINE TO PROMOTE GHANAIAN POETRY

One Ghana, One Voice Seeks Submissions in Preparations for its March 24th Launch

The arts and culture of Ghana are currently being applauded as part of the Ghana @ 50 celebrations, but one part of Ghana’s arts community is being neglected.

Ghanaian poets currently lack venues to promote their work. Where once magazines such as The Legacy and Black Orpheus could act as platforms for new Ghanaian writers, now few such opportunities exist.

One Ghana, One Voice is a new online magazine (www.oneghanaonevoice.blogspot.com) which hopes to provide such a platform for Ghanaian poets and for poetry on Ghana’s culture, people, places, and history. Every week it will feature a new poet, presenting an example of their work and a personal biography.

One Ghana, One Voice is a non-profit venture coordinated by Ghanaian poet and author Julian Adomako-Gyimah and Canadian poet Rob Taylor. The format is simple: every Saturday a new poet will be profiled with one of their poems posted alongside a personal biography.

Adomako-Gyimah and Taylor hope that, over time, a community can emerge through and amongst these profiled writers, and that the site can serve as a place where diverse voices from different corners of the world can converge to create a collective image of Ghana.

The magazine is currently accepting submissions, which can be sent to [email protected]. The first issue will be launched on Saturday, March 24th.
