New Juaben Municipal Mutual Health Insurance Scheme launched

Koforidua, April 29, GNA- Ms Susana Mensah, Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, on Thursday launched the New Juaben Mutual Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) with the assurance that the National Health Insurance Scheme was becoming a reality.

She advised subscribers of the scheme not to abuse the scheme by seeking unnecessary medical attention.

The Municipal Chief Executive, Nana Adjei Boateng, said out of the 67,000 people who had registered with the scheme, only 13,665 had fully paid their premium.

He said 302 million cedis had been collected as premium in the municipality.

The Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Council, Dr Samuel Akortey Akor, said the minimum contribution was 72,000 cedis, while middle-income earners and the rich could pay 180,000 cedis and 480,000 cedis respectively.

Dr Akor expressed the hope that the additional financial resources that would flow into the health sector as a result of the various health insurance schemes would help service providers to invest in infrastructure and equipment to boost health delivery.
