The New Juaben Municipal Assembly has started health screening exercises for food and drink sellers in the municipality.
The screening is to find out if the vendors have any communicable disease that could be transmitted through their vending activities.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Mr Francis Sarfo, Municipal Environmental Health Officer, said so far over 2,000 food vendors had been screened and issued with certificates since the exercise begun about a month ago.
He said the municipality had been divided into 13 zones, each with a screening centre at a vantage point for every food vendor to be screened.
Mr Sarfo said per the laws and a requirement, every food vendor was expected to undertake this exercise every three months.
He said those who refused to comply with the directive would have to face the law.
Mr Sarfo said environmental officers would be going round to check the health screening certificates of vendors from time to time and those who did not have would be arrested by the Municipal Assembly Task Force.
He urged all food vendors in the municipality to take advantage of the exercise to help raise the standard of food delivery services.
