New JSS block under construction for Obakrowa community.

Accra, Dec. 22, GNA – A three-classroom Junior Secondary School (JSS) block for the people of Obakrowa in the Ga District to provide opportunities for the children to improve on their education is under construction at a cost of 282.5 million cedis.

The building is currently at the foundation level and it is being constructed from the HIPC fund through the help of the Ga District Assembly (Amasaman).

The project, would save the children the problem of walking to Amanfrom, a nearby village to attend schcol have their JSS education. The building has an office, a store, four units KVIP and two-unit urinal.

Mr Reuben Okai Fenni, School Management Committee Chairman said most children could not walk the distance from Obakrowa to Amanfrom making the school-drop out rate very high in the community. He said at the moment, pupils in classes one to six, the highest standard in the community, have been having their lessons under a shed, which did not encourage teachers to take up teaching appointment in the community.

Mr Fenni said the community was a farming one, which was most of the time affected by poverty due to unfavourable weather. He said the community currently lacked a day nursery and teachers’ quarters and called on government to assist in providing that. Mr. Samuel Nii Attoh, District Chief Executive of Amasaman cut the sod for work to progress on the school building.

He said the community would be developed if its people were also developed and that education was the key to success.

Mr Attoh called on the community to help through communal labour to ensure the early completion of the project.

He urged the parents to send their children to the school and extended his thanks to the chiefs of the area for providing five acres of land for the construction of the building.
