New international airport for Ashanti

The Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has secured a large scale of land alone the Kumasi-Mampong road to construct a new international airport in the Ashanti regiona as part of its developmental agenda to be the showpiece in the West African Sub-region.

The Acting Director General of GCAA, Mr. Nii Adumasa-Baddo who disclosed this at a news conference in Kumasi indicated that the project is at the master planning stage in which the consultant is seriously working on.

?We want to be a showpiece in the West African Sub-region. Since Ghana is the front-runner in our sub-region, the air transport must move in sympathy with this?, he emphatically stated, adding that another one is also expected to be constructed at Prampram area in Accra.

Seeing Ghana as the gateway of Africa and Kumasi strategically located according to the GCAA Director, there is the need to have two international airports to take advantage of the potentially economic situation that are at present.
