New IGP tours scene of fire outbreak at Tema

Accra, March 26, GNA – Mr Patrick Acheampong, the new Inspector General of Police (IGP) on Saturday led a team of senior police officers to undertake a spot inspection of the fire outbreak at the PSC Tema Shipyard.

He met with the management of Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) and talked on the extent of damage and measures to be taken to forestall such occurrences.

Mr Acheampong indicated that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in collaboration with the National Fire Service would conduct preliminary investigation on the cause of the fire outbreak.

He noted that security had been beefed up at all fuel depots nationwide to ensure that nobody took advantage of the situation to create unnecessary tension.

So far 13, bodies had been recovered, all male, a Guinean national, a Russian and a Greek, who is the Chief Engineer of MV Polris.

The fire was alleged to had started last Friday following an explosion near the overhead installation at the dry dock and bent the belt serving GHACEM and the oil pipeline serving TOR and other lines serving VALCO and VRA.

Other properties damaged included the entire building of Tiku Company and Dolphine Company.
