New Heads For Prison & Fire Service

Accra Oct. 26, GNA – The President, John Agyekum Kufuor in consultation with the Council of State has appointed Mr William Kwadwo Asiedu as the Director-General of Prisons with effect from October 1, 2004.
This was contained in a statement signed by Mr Hackman Owusu-Agyeman, Minister of the Interior.
Mr Asiedu, 48, joined the Ghana Prisons Service in 1981 as a Legal Officer. He has held a number of positions in the Service including Commandant, Prison Officers Training School; Regional Commander, Ashanti and Northern Regions; Chief Education Officer; Director, Human Resource Development and Deputy Director-General of Prisons.
Mr Asiedu holds a degree in Law and a Masters degree in Public Administration from the School of Administration, University of Ghana, Legon. In 1995 to 1996, he was granted a Hubert Humphrey Fellowship at the Lynden B. Johnson School of Public Affairs, University of Texas; Austin; United States.
Until his appointment, Mr Asiedu was the Acting Director-General of Prisons.
In another development, President Kufuor has appointed Mr Emmanuel Adugbire Atenga as the Chief Fire Officer with effect from October 1, 2004.
The appointment is in accordance with the Ghana National Fire Service Act 537 of 1997.
Mr Atenga attended the Fire Service Training School and has held a number of positions including District Fire Officer for West Gonja; Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regional Fire Officer and Deputy Chief Fire Officer in charge of Operations.
Mr Atenga has participated in a number of training programmes since joining GNFS including Command and Staff Training Course at the Armed Forces Staff College and Group Training in Fire Prevention Technique, Japan.
