New entrants to KG, Basic one mark first day at School

Abandze (C/R), Sept 12, GNA – The Government has decided to absorb all private Kindergartens (KGs) in communities without public ones into the public system and pay the salaries of their teachers. The Central Regional Minister, Nana Ato Arthur, announced this on Tuesday when he joined newly enrolled pupils into KGs and Primary Class One to mark “My First Day at School” at Abandze in the Mfantseman District.

The government last year instituted the Day to welcome children into the School environment and to help them to develop and maintain interest in education.

Nana Arthur described KGs as “the foundation of the new Educational Reform Programme” and said this would enable their pupils to enjoy the Capitation Grant and the School Feeding Programme.

The Regional Minister advised the new entrants to regard School as their second home and to “feel at home”, saying, “The school environment should not scare you to run away and play truancy”.

Nana Ato Arthur appealed to teachers to strive to create a “friendly school environment” that would always attract children to be present and to take their studies seriously.

He advised school children to have an ambition and to work hard to achieve their ambitions.

The Regional Minister distributed miniature Ghana Flags, biscuits, Ghana at 50 plastic cups and caps to the children. Mr Robert Quainoo-Arthur, District Chief Executive, Ms Rosemond Blay, Central Regional Director of Education, Ms Vivian Etroo, District Director of Education, Ms Salome Odobill, Regional Pre-School Coordinator accompanied the Regional Minister. Earlier Nana Arthur accompanied by the Regional Director and officials of the Ghana Education Service and the Regional Co-ordinating Council and his entourage had visited some schools in the Cape Coast Municipality, Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abirem and Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese Districts.
