New districts will be adequately resourced – President Kufuor

Jacobu (Ash), Oct. 31, GNA – President John Agyekum Kufuor on Thursday said all the newly created districts in the country would be adequately resourced to promote the development of those areas, especially the district capitals.

President Kufuor, who was addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of Jacobu, the Capital Town of the newly created Amansie Central District of Ashanti, said a number of policies had been formulated to quicken the pace of development at the district capitals. He said: “It is the policy of the NPP (New Patriotic Party) Government to tar the streets of all district capitals in the country and also establish district hospitals”.

President Kufuor said apart from these, roads linking one district capital to the other would be tarred to enhance movement of people, goods and services adding: “Another policy is that all the 138 districts nationwide are to get one quality senior secondary school and so Jacobu will get one of such schools.”

He said the Government would assist in improving the Jacobu Catholic Hospital and also provide a District Hospital. President Kufuor gave the assurance that the Government would appoint a District Chief Executive capable of leading the people to develop the area and appealed to them to elect suitable candidates to the district assembly.

He warned assembly members, who had turned themselves into contractors and contact the assemblies for contracts to desist form the practice.

President Kufuor commended the people in the area for having faith in the NPP and said: “Because you have faith in the party we will also serve you to facilitate the development of the area”.

Nana Fosu Kwadwe Abiri, Jacobuhene, commended President Kufuor for creating the new district and appealed to the Government to rehabilitate the roads in the district to enhance economic activities.
