New DCE for Gushiegu

Gushiegu (N/R), Sept.14, GNA – Mr. Fuseini Alhassan, 49, a former officer of the Audit Service in Salaga in the East Gonja District was on Monday sworn into office as the new District Chief Executive (DCE) of the Gushiegu District Assembly in the Northern Region. Mr. Alhassan has been sworn into office against the background of the Gushiegu Assembly’s failure on two occasions to endorse the President’s nominee for the position.

Swearing in the new DCE, Mr. Stephen Sumani Nayina, Northern Regional Minister noted that for a long time Gushiegu had been divided along political and chieftaincy lines, and this had made it difficult for government to agree on the appointment of a DCE for the area. He therefore urged the DCE to strive to reconcile the people irrespective of their political or chieftaincy affiliations to enable him pursue the development agenda for the district. He urged the DCE to run an open door administration if he is to succeed.

Mr. Nayina further called on the Assembly members and the people of Gushiegu to cooperate with the DCE for the development of the district. Mr. Alhassan on his part pledged to cooperate with the Member of Parliament and the people, to ensure the peace and development of the district.

He said education, the provision of roads and other social amenities would be his priorities in his development agenda. 15 Sept. 09
