New chairman for Education Trust Fund

Accra, July 25, GNA – President John Agyekum Kufuor has appointed Professor Y S Boafo as new Chairman of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) with effect from August 1, a statement in Accra said on Wednesday.

The statement signed by Mr James Oppong Afram, Chief Director, Ministry of Education, Science and Sports, said Prof Boafo was Ghana’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Cote d’Ivoire from 2001 to 2006.

According to the statement, he was a Pro- Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast and also served as Director of the Office of International Programmes for the University from 2000 to 2001.

Prof Boafo was also a member of the West African Examinations Council, a Chief Examiner or External Assessor to examination bodies. “Prof Boafo is assuming the position at a time when Ghana is embarking on the implementation of the Educational Reform. He brings to his job a wealth of experience and leadership qualities acquired over a period of 40 years in the public and educational sector,” the statement said.

The Ministry congratulated him for his new appointment and commended the outgoing Chairman of the Board, Alhaji Mustapha Idris, Northern Regional Minister, for good performance during his tenure of office.
